Whangarei Boys’ High School is located in central Whangarei, Northland’s largest city.

We are an internationally recognised boys high school built on a vibrant history and strong traditions which have consistently enabled young men to gain an education of high academic and sporting standards since 1881. Our students routinely achieve leading levels of academic attainment above national averages and other boys’ schools.

Whangarei Boys' High School Academic Features and Highlights

Educational Highlights

We offer an exciting and extensive academic curriculum with traditional subjects such as English, Maths and Science as well as Arts, Design, Music, Business and Commerce, Technology, Hospitality, Languages, Engineering, and Outdoor Education. We also offer ESOL classes and IELTS support.

Sporting Highlights

We have over 35 sporting clubs that students are encouraged to join, including badminton, volleyball, football, basketball, rugby, hockey, sailing, surfing, table tennis, yachting, athletics, trap-shooting and adventure racing. In addition to this we have rugby, basketball and football academies available to our students.

Cultural Highlights

We encourage cultural and art programmes to all students, with opportunities including the Orchestra, Choir, Chamber Music, Kapa Haka (Maori performing arts) and Drama.

Special Facilities

Our brand new purpose built school complex which was completed in 2022 includes an auditorium (a performing arts theatre) which accommodates the whole school, expansive fields, specialist technology workshops, well resourced classrooms and wireless facilities, gymnasiums, a swimming pool, and tennis courts.

Sporting facilities include a well-equipped gymnasium for Volleyball and Basketball and a weight training room and table tennis facilities. Our dedicated golf academy provides students with comprehensive golf coaching and development.
