Meet Student Ambassador: Melanie He

We talked to Melanie He from Whangarei Girls’ High School about what makes Northland special for her.

What made you choose Northland?

I love Northland because this is where my hometown is. I love Northland especially because of how friendly the community is making it a safe home for everyone. I’m so glad to be grown up in Northland where all the breathtaking sceneries and sublime landscapes are.

What do you love most about studying at school in New Zealand?

Studying in New Zealand has been amazing. It gives me a calm, relaxed feeling with little stress. I love how many opportunities and options there are at school, not only just the diverse subjects you can choose. Teachers and students here are friendly and supportive too.

What are your favourite experiences in Northland?

One of my most liked memory has to be town basin Whangarei. This is the place I went to the most during my childhood. I love this place because I can do many things there. For example, walking around the Hatea loop, playing in the park and enjoying a coffee at the cafes.

What are your interests, sports and hobbies?

I like to do outdoor activities in Northland. I love looking at the scenery especially if it’s after hiking. One of my favourite mountains to climb got to be Mt Mania because it has stunning views of the land and sea. I also enjoy caving. Lastly, During my own time, I like to watch dramas and reality shows if I have time. I normally do this in the evening or I’m not out and about.

What is your favourite local place to hang out with friends?

My favourite local place to hang out with my friends are the beaches. Langs Beach and Whale Bay are my top favourite beaches in Northland. This is my favourite because I like the slow pace of life, so at the beach, I can sit down with my friends and listen to the waves, swim, kayak and walk around the coastline.
