QRC Cooking Students Winning Recipe
As part of Savour Northland’s Feast2020 event, teams of students from the QRC Culinary School in Kerikeri got together to create a dish showcasing local Northland ingredients.
Produce was sourced from the Packhouse Market in Kerikeri and other local growers then taken back to the QRC kitchen for the creative process to begin. Note the use of citrus fruit which Kerikeri is famous for too.
The Winning Recipe
The winning team created a Honey Roasted Butternut, Macadamia & Mahoe Gouda Tortellini with a Cauliflower & Citrus Pangrattato & Leek Beurre Blanc. Students who worked on this winning recipe include: Dani, Hannah, Hunter, Maddy, Michelle and Storm.
Meet the students…
Madi is from Paihia and has been studying at QRC for 7 months. She loves cooking BLTs and hopes to work in a restaurant or cafe in the future.
Hunter is from Kerikeri and has been studying at QRC for just 16 weeks. His favourite thing to cook is pasta and would like to work in a restaurant kitchen.
Hannah is from Levin and has been studying at QRC since February 2020. She loves cooking desserts and baking and would like to travel around New Zealand and eventually open her own restaurant.
Michelle is from Taipa and has been studying at QRC since February 2020. She also loves making pasta.
Danikha is from Opotoki and has been studying at QRC for 7 months. Her favourite dish to cook is mussel fritters and she is keen to work overseas in the future.
QRC Culinary School
Based in Kerikeri, QRC Culinary offers hands-on culinary certificates at Level 3 and Level 4. If you’re keen to be a chef, QRC Culinary has the right ingredients to get you started. We offer a New Zealand Certificate in Cookery Level 3, and a New Zealand Certificate in Cookery Level 4 (pending NZQA approval). Both of our courses are really hands-on!
You’ll learn in the classroom and spend lots of time in the commercial kitchen. Even better, you’ll put the skills you have learnt into practice, running the on-site restaurant and preparing meals for guests, just like being a professional chef.
