Whangarei Girls’ High School is an exciting place to study, with countless academic and extra-curricular activities. We welcome international students, helping them to achieve their academic goals while experiencing our beautiful country. Our school has a high number of students achieving NCEA, and continuing on to tertiary and higher education. Many students also enjoy national successes in other fields such as music, the arts and sport.

Our international staff provide dedicated 24/7 support for international students and create tailored academic programmes to suit each student’s requirements. With over 50 school clubs for sports, arts, social interest and cultural activities, our students have the opportunity to meet many friends and enjoy countless new experiences to nurture their personal development.

Educational Highlights

Our exciting and extensive curriculum includes all traditional subjects such as English, Maths and Science as well as much more, including Languages, Arts, Music, Commerce, Technology, Design, Outdoor Education, ESOL and IELTS.

Sporting Highlights

We have over 30 school sports clubs including badminton, volleyball, football and basketball. We also offer exciting opportunities to experience New Zealand’s beautiful outdoors, with school camps, Outdoor Education and community programmes.

Cultural Highlights

We offer a wide range of cultural and arts pursuits, such as the school Orchestra, Choir, Chamber Music Group, Kapa Haka (Maori performing arts), Drama, Dance, Cheerleading and Band.

Special Facilities

Our school complex includes expansive fields, a modern library and specialist technology block, well resourced classrooms and wireless facilities, three gymnasiums, dance studios, swimming pool, tennis courts and performing arts theatre.

Accommodation

Our students enjoy a safe and supportive living environment, with the option of a local homestay family or at the school boarding house, Lupton House, which is situated on the school grounds.
